Isaac Anderson Teaching Pastor, Kerygma Pastor, Writer-in-Residence
Isaac is one of the Teaching Pastors at Jacob’s Well, and as such, part of the Kairos team helping think about Sunday gatherings and the ways we as a community worship together. He also speaks/teaches/preaches several times a year. In 2008, Isaac left church work to get an MFA in creative writing at Ohio State, and now he also spends part of his time writing — nonfiction: essays, memoir, etc. — and teaching nonfiction at the university level. His work has appeared in literary journals such as Fourth River, The Writers Chronicle, and Image, and in other publications, including Economy of Love (with Shane Claiborne) and The Voice Project. Sometimes he writes music with people (Mike Crawford, for one). Isaac is on leave for the 2016-17 academic year, while teaching in Seattle. Ginger Broyles Senior Pastor’s Assistant
Ginger is the assistant to Tim Keel. She is glad to be back at Jacob’s Well and loves serving this community of people. She and her husband Mike have been married since 1990, and have lived in the area ever since. In their spare time they love looking for treasure at estate sales or auctions and entertaining at home. Ginger also enjoys making handmade greeting cards and soldered art charms in their basement. She loves living in Midtown, thrift stores, swimming, Paris, movies, movies about Paris, making really tasty desserts, and her dog, whom she affectionately calls “Big Baby” (but his real name is Sampson).
Katie Cangelose Infant and Toddler Coordinator
Katie is the Infant and Toddler Coordinator at Jacob’s Well. She is passionate about offering the Wee Ones a safe environment to learn spiritual practices while also being able to play imaginatively in God’s Story. She graduated from Missouri State University in 2003 with a degree in Child and Family Development. She also has a Minor in Music. She spent many years teaching preschool at a Montessori preschool. She has a wonderful husband Andrew and 3 children Ellie, Henry and Molly. They have been coming to Jacob’s Well since 2014. Katie enjoys drinking coffee, binging on Netflix and spending time with friends.
Adam Cooper Youth Director
Adam has served as Youth Director at Jacob’s Well since 2011 overseeing both the middle and high school ministries. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Kansas State University and will graduate with a Masters of Divinity from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in 2016. He is passionate about adolescent development and thinks middle schoolers are the greatest humans on this planet (no offense, adults). Adam spent 6 years serving with the youth ministry at Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village, KS, prior to his time at Jacob’s Well. Adam blogs about his passions – baseball youth ministry and pop culture, mostly – at APCblogs.com and is currently writing a book exploring themes of spirituality and theology within the game of baseball. Mike Crawford Worship/Arts Pastor
Mike has served as the Worship/Arts Pastor here at Jacob’s Well since 2001. He leads and arranges our musical worship teams and writes many of the songs we sing here at Jacob’s Well. Mike also facilitates the recording studio we have here at the church. We utilize the studio to record all sorts of bands and solo artists and to build relational bridges into the musical community that surrounds us in Westport. We also use the space to record some of the worship music we play here. (Hear some of those songs here.) Mike has been playing music since he was in 5th grade and feels a deep sense of calling on his life to use music to connect people with God. Mike is married to Laura and together, they have three kids – Cole, Macyann and Georgia. In his spare time Mike likes to find free firewood, split it up and burn it.
Alex Dressman High School Coordinator
Alex is the High School Coordinator at Jacob’s Well. She has a heart for adolescents and is excited to intentionally walk alongside them during such a significant stage of human development and spiritual formation. Her prior involvement with Kanakuk, K-Life, FCA, and Youthfront has shaped the way she cultivates relationship with and space for young people to feel welcomed, known, and loved. She graduated from William Jewell College this May with degrees in Religion and Psychology. When Alex is not running around with high schoolers, she works as a goalkeeping coach and makes homemade calligraphy prints! She enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs, hiking, snail mail, antiquing, grabbing coffee with friends, and a good laugh.
Jim Gum Executive Pastor
Jim is the Executive Pastor at Jacob’s Well leading the Chronos team and serves as a member of the Pastoral Leadership Team. After teaching Chemistry at Shawnee Mission Northwest for six years, he joined the Young Life staff working in various roles within the mission for the next 18 years. He comes to Jacob’s Well after learning his craft as an Executive Pastor at Heartland Community Church. Jim is married to Lee and they have four children: Alex, Bryan, Casey and Daniel. He has a BA from Texas Christian University (Religion/Chemistry) and an MAT from Fuller Theological Seminary. Jim and his wife Lee enjoy playing together in a Beatles cover band, Fab Four Five.
Mimi Keel Kids Community Director
Mimi is the Director of the Kids Community at Jacob’s Well. She has been a part of the kids ministry since 1998. She loves exploring how to capture the imaginations of children with the story of God. Mimi has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Baylor University. She’s married to Tim, her high school sweetheart. Mimi taught first grade in Kansas City, Kansas and has been the director of an urban youth program in Denver, Colorado. She loves living life with Tim and their three kids, Mabry, Annie, and Blaise. She enjoys family dinners, game nights, biking, cooking, yoga, and walking with friends.
Tim Keel Senior Pastor
Tim is the Senior Pastor and primary teaching pastor at Jacob’s Well and a member of its leadership team. After spending 11 years as the founding pastor of Jacob’s Well, Tim and his family moved to Auckland, New Zealand (January 2010), where he was the Senior Fellow for Congregational Studies at Laidlaw College. He has recently returned to Jacob’s Well and is excited to once more be a part of the Jacob’s Well community. Tim is married to Mimi and they have three children: Mabry, Annelise, and Blaise. Tim has a BFA in Design and Illustration from the University of Kansas and a MDiv from Denver Seminary. He is the author of Intuitive Leadership: Embracing a Paradigm of Metaphor, Narrative, and Chaos (Baker, 2007) and a forthcoming volume on Ecclesiastes in the Resonate Bible Commentary series from Intervarsity Press. Tim loves spending time with his family, watching KU basketball, cheering for the New Zealand rugby team (Go All Blacks!), as well as reading, writing, teaching, exercising – and, especially, preaching at Jacob’s Well!
Jessi Marcus Koinonia Pastor
Jessi is the leader of the Koinonia Team that is committed to hosting spaces where people at Jacob’s Well are shaped and formed by God in different venues such as Corpus (small groups), Community Dinners, justice efforts, etc. Jessi cares deeply about the ways that we tend to one another and co-directs pastoral care. She graduated from Westmont College and has a Masters in Divinity from Fuller Seminary. Jessi lives life with husband, Todd, and their three children–Wells, Lincoln, and Olive. You will often find them in front of the fireplace or playing a game of soccer in the front yard.
Kristen McClain Women’s Ministry
Kristen serves on the Koinonia Team and leads our Women’s Ministry. She has a long history of involvement in college ministry both in town at Colonial Presbyterian church and Ichthus ministries in Lawrence, KS. Kristen and her husband John owned a shoe store called Habitat for seven years prior to coming to work at Jacob’s Well. They have four children Margot, Vance, Edmund and Georgia.
Kaitlin Mullinix Kairos Director
Kaitlin serves as the Kairos Director, orchestrating the moving parts of theSunday gathering. She manages a team of volunteers who serve communion, greet, and run media. Within the position, she supports the staff administratively by promoting events on social media and communicating through the online database. Kaitlin became part of the JW community in 2008 and began her first position on staff as the Kids Community Administrator in 2014. On any given weekend you will find Kaitlin drinking coffee, cleaning her kitchen, listening to records, or spending time with her fancy cat, Miss Kitty.
Dara Pacheco Administrator | Bookkeeper
Dara has been attending Jacob’s Well since 2004 and began serving as the bookkeeper in early 2016. She graduated from Avila University with a bachelor’s degree in social work and a minor in art and served as a case worker for youth in the foster care system and foster parents prior to working at Jacob’s Well. Her wide range of interests in the creative realm vary from sculpting to baking to writing, etc. You name it, she’s probably tried it. While you will often find her spending her free time relaxing, road tripping, or on random family excursions, her most gratifying pastime …beating her husband, Brent, at a game of Dr. Mario.
Bill Pollock Operations Manager
Bill is from Kansas City and has called Jacob’s Well home since 2006. He is a musician and has served on the audio and worship teams. As the Facility Manager he seeks to make Jacob’s Well look, sound, and feel as welcoming as the community that fills it. Bill is married to Rachel, they have one daughter, Ehler, and live in Kansas City, Kansas. He loves listening to and creating music with friends.
Micah Thomas Worship Leader
Micah has been our part-time worship leader here at Jacob’s Well since September 2007. He graduated from The University of Kansas with a B.S. in Accounting and also works for YouthFront -a non-profit youth ministry organization just down the road from Jacob’s Well. Micah married Jessica King in November 2009 and the two enjoy various house projects and life in midtown. Micah loves Kansas City barbecue, creating and recording music, playing outside, and exploring new places.
Cait St. John Preschool Director
Cait St. John has been serving at Jacob’s Well as our Kids Community intern since September 2015. As of this May, she graduated from MidAmerican Nazarene University with a Children and Family Ministry BA. We welcome her into a new role at Jacob’s Well as our WeeOnes Co-Team Leader! She is excited to continue faith formation with our faithful babes, toddlers, and families. Studying, writing curriculum and teaching have grown her faith in Jesus and the church. Engaging in spiritual practices have encouraged her to keep growing in fellowship with our community.
She also loves creating spaces, watercolor painting, making homemade bath and body goodies with friends, practicing yoga, reading vegetarian cookbooks, shopping, and playing with her spunky little cat, Basil.
Shayne Wessel Men’s Ministry | Small Groups
After five years away serving a church in Santa Cruz California as a pastor for young adults and families, Shayne has returned home to oversee the small groups ministry, men’s ministry, and the Sunday evening community at Jacob’s Well. He and Suzanne and their two beautiful daughters enjoy participating in their own ways in music, ballet and theatre. In his spare time Shayne enjoys comics and graphic novels, reading and praying with the Scriptures, playing tabletop RPGs, electrodancepoppunk rock shows, reading articles about theology and transpersonal psychology, and making up fantastical true stories with his girls and their friends. It’s possible he might stumble into a little stage acting here in KC at some point. If you want to know more, you’ll need to buy him a coffee or a beer and be ready to share your own experience of faith and the Jacob’s Well community with him.
Sam Wright Grade School Coordinator
Sam has called Jacob’s Well home since moving to Kansas City in 2003. He spent seven years happily volunteering in the Kid’s Community before becoming the Grade School Coordinator. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Art from Emporia State University, and uses it a variety of the city’s professional live theatres. Sam is also an avid singer/songwriter and the creator of a zombie apocalypse rock opera entitled, The SlaughterHouse Opera. Sam is driven by a passion for telling stories and cultivating a nurturing, creative environment for kids.
