Confirmation 2013

What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is an opportunity for students entering 8th or 9th grade to take ownership of their faith. Throughout the summer, we will discover what it means to live as a Christian and as part of God’s story. The course will include required memorization and attendance, and will culminate in the presentation of a Bible and the option to be baptized this August. On Location:
Each of our gatherings will meet in a different location around the Kansas City area. We do this for two reasons: first, by moving outside the church, it reminds the students that living out their faith is not limited to the church building. Second, when students step out of their normal routine they are able to reorganize their thoughts and experience what is being taught in new ways. On Sunday meetings, the students will then be shuttled back to church to sit together during the 9AM worship gathering. Here is the list of meeting dates, times and locations:

Meeting 1 & 2: Introduction & God’s Story

Meeting 4: God’s Mission
- Date: Saturday, July 13 – 7AM – 12PM
- Location: Jacob’s Well/Hope Faith Ministries
Meeting 5: My Life
- Date: Sunday, July 28 – 8AM
- Location: Summit Street Bridge (1500 Summit St, KCMO)
Meeting 6: Ceremony & Baptisms
- Date: August 18
- Location: TBA

Service Notes:
Students are required to take notes during FIVE different Sunday worship gatherings during the summer. Three should be taken care of on mornings when we return to church, but two other notes need to be done on their own time. These can be done by listening to the sermon audio online or by attending the 9AM/5:30PM Sunday services.

Going Deeper Devotionals:
Between meetings, students will be required to complete an experience-based worksheet. Each worksheet is designed to go deeper with the previous Sunday’s conversation, and to also introduce the conversation coming the following week. On average, there about two weeks between each meeting to complete these “Going Deeper” worksheets.

Memorization:
There will be required memorization for each meeting. Students will be expected to commit eight different verses, the books of the Bible, the Lord’s Prayer and the Apostle’s Creed to memory.

Personal Confirmation Verse:
Every confirmand will have the opportunity to select their own personal “confirmation verse”. This verse is to be selected on their own. The verse can be whatever they want it to be – they will share these verses and why they chose them as apart of the Confirmation ceremony at The Pilgrimage.

Ceremony & Baptism:
At the end of the summer, confirmation students will declare their faith and be recognized for their efforts in front of the community, they will receive a personalized confirmation Bible, and be given the opportunity to be baptized if they haven’t already.
